ADVANCEMENT OPPORTUNITIES IN NURSING EDUCATION

Most colleges and universities have a system of faculty ranking based on education and experience. Faculty ranks range from instructor, to associate professor, to associate, to full professor. Completion of a doctoral degree may be required to be eligible for a tenured position. Some associate degree programs may offer tenure to individuals with Masters degrees. Salary is commensurate with rank, education and experience. Promotion decisions include consideration of contributions to teaching and scholarship, as well as service and practice. Emphasis on these factors may vary from school to school.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Nursing faculty positions may be available at any of the schools of nursing. They may be advertised in local or national nursing publications, and local newspapers. Many are posted on the schools’ websites under employment opportunities, or you may contact the dean or director of the school.
