FREDERICK COMMUNITY COLLEGE

The Practical Nursing program curriculum requires 43 credit hours. Upon successful completion of the curriculum, the graduate is eligible to take the examination for practical nurse licensure (LPN). This program is part of a nursing ladder program. Graduates may continue into the second year of the ADN program if all ADN general education requirements have been completed. Nursing students must maintain the scholastic standards of the College and must achieve a grade of "C" or better on each course. Graduates are prepared to give nursing care in hospitals, doctor’s office, and long-term care facilities as a member of the health care team.

RN graduates are prepared to give competent, safe nursing care to patients in hospitals, nursing homes, and other comparable health agencies under the supervision of more experienced practitioners, and with experience and further preparation, should be able to assume increasing responsibility in nursing. Students with family commitments or who need to work are encouraged to do the program in three or four years. Students who drop out for any reason may be readmitted on a space-available basis and should contact the program director as soon as possible. A grade of "C" or better is required for all courses.
